Everyday Tamil Cinema surprises you by the fascinating new thoughts of young filmmakers. Here is one that's bound to create history. 'Karma' a film directed by Arvind Ramalingam has created history by making Kavi Perarasu Vairamuthu write new 'Kural' and have recorded it in his voice as well. When asked about it Kavi Perarasu Vairamuthu said 'Karma film Director Arvind Ramalingam and Music Director L.V.Ganesan met me and said that they are planning to do the title credits differently, and for that if they had asked a song wouldn't be surprised but they said they needed 'Kural' like Thirukkral. I liked the idea. There are 133 chapters in Thirukkural and there is a chapter called 'Oozhvinai'. I have written 10 kurals slightly related and slightly not related to 'Oozhvinai'. They have recorded these 10 kurals in my voice. I thank Arvind Ramalingam and L.VGanesan for the opportunity.

Moreover he said 'After I wrote and recorded it, now I think that how Thiruvalluvar would have written Thirukkural for this generation. Thirukkural was written more than 2000 years ago. Times and lives have changed a lot since then. Thiruvaluvar is not here, no one is there in his heights. So I am planning to write 133 Chapters of Thirukkural for the new generation as how Thiruvalluvar would have written it. If in future this happens I am proud to say that the credits for the same would go to Karma film Director Arvind Ramalingam and Music Director L.V.Ganesan.'

'Karma' is a Tamil film produced by Creative Criminal Productions and Directed by Arvind Ramalingam.

Take a Shower!

Alex Redmond from New Media Strategies sent me the winner has been announced for the Young Creatives Competition: Film sponsored by Nokia Nseries that was part of the recent International Advertising Festival in Cannes, France. Italy ran away with this year’s medal Now that the contest has concluded, there is some great footage both at the competition’s site as well as the reality-TV style footage on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/localtheory). The YouTube videos include John Jackson from MTV explaining to the 20 teams their 48-hour mission, all 20 team submissions and some very interesting interviews with marketing icons, like Bob Scarpelli, who talks about the state of mobile advertising. In true documentary style, there is some hilarious behind-the-scenes footage at the YouTube page also, that you won’t find anywhere else.

BROAD SHOULDERS!

ChallengeOptimus is a mobile phone company based in Portugal. Their task was to create a brand experience targeted to young people within a big music festival context. They provided a solution by a service called “Broad Shoulders”. Ten big men offered their Broad Shoulders for people to climb in order to see better the concerts or just to find a lost friend amongst the crowd. This service was greatly accepted by young people, creating word of mouth in the three days of the music festival as more people were asking for the Broad Shoulders service.

Magic Bricks!

The creative, made by Mudra's Delhi branch, shows a young man, who seems to be napping at home, caught off guard, by a mobile call from his boss. He tells his boss that he is searching for his home, and won't be able to come to office. He even swears by his wife, that he was not fibbing about his house hunting. The camera then zooms onto his laptop, where it shows him actually surfing the MagicBricks.com site, with the tagline -- "Ghar Baithe Ghar Dhoondo." (Sitting at Home, Find your Home). AMAM!

Text in the card:
Wet your finger and rub to find out what millions of women feel
After following the instructions, thanks to a special ink, the word NOTHING appears underneath.
Text back of card:
Over two million girls suffer genital mutilation every year. The AMAM association has very few members and strictly limited funds, for which reason it had to run a campaign with few resources but convincing, with a high profile. This is why a free postcard was chosen, to be distributed at strategic points where the target audience was to be found: arthouse cinemas, theatres, galleries, etc. The postcard’s impact was visible very quickly, with donations, e-mails and even mentions in the media.
